  • Laid Foundation for the B.Ed Training Programme

  • American University Principals and Deans, Dr. John H. Callan Dean – South range, New Jersey Rev. Fr. Kilburn, Dean King's College, Pennsylvania visited the college.
1964
  • Student participated in an International Seminar. ‘Around the world in to five at St. Mary's Hall, Armenian Street, Madras-1. organised by A. I. C. U. F.
1965
  • Rev. Father Keogh, S. J. addressed the student’s union on how to judge films morally, culturally, artistically.
1966
    Inauguration of M.Ed Course. Dr. Vijayalakshmi, Executive of UNESCO presided over the United Nations Day. “The sound of Music” a musical programme organised by Mr. Francis P. Coward of the U.S.I. S
1967
  • A Seminar on the Kothari Commission by combined Colleges of Education, at St. Christopher’s College.
  • A Seminar on Guidance and Counselling by Fr. Malin from Nagpur.
1968
  • Three students represented the college in the group of Indian Youth which went abroad the liner ‘Sakura Mari’ to meet the Japanese Youth Good Will Mission, the news was published in Hindu daily.
1969
  • In connection with Gandhi Centenary Celebration the College conducted a Pictorial Exhibition.
  • Investiture ceremony with a play on Unity ‘Anbin Aikkyam' written by Mrs. Ghosh was highly appreciated.
  • Prepared a wing ‘Education’s for an Inter-collegiate exhibition on National Integration at Loyola College.
1970
  • Prof. Bibhuranjan Guha, Retired professor of philosophy from Calcutta delivered a highly educative and interesting lecture on mental hygiene.
1971
  • Dr. Maria Egg Benes, a world-renowned specialist in Therapeutic education delivered a lecture at the College on mental retardation.
1972
  • Regular Night schools and various social activities were organized by students under “Social Service Scheme”
  • Mrs. Jusbir secured University first rank in B.Ed .
1973
  • Mr. D’Cruz, Lecturer in Education at Melbourne University visited the college and conversed with students.
  • Family Life Education, a series of lectures was organized by Association of Moral and Social Hygiene in India
  • Mrs. Hirt, Prof. of Psychology, Wheeler College, Boston delivered a talk on curriculum in America.
  • Dr. Malcolm Adiseshish, Chairman of the Committee for developmental studies, Tamil Nadu, inaugurated students’ union.
1975
  • A Canadian Teachers’ Team Inaugurated College Students’ union and delivered a talk on the teacher education programme of Canada.
  • Students attended “Nava Nirmana”, ten days course organized by Stella Maris as a part of Social Service Course.
1976
  • The famous French Canadian Social Worker, Jean Vanier, shared his expertise on “How to help the Mentally Retarded Children”.
  • A two-week public Speaking Course was arranged with Mr. Ramanathan of American Society as the Course Director.
1977
  • The College was headed by New management. Mother Angela, FMM handed over keys to Mother Stella of Franciscan Sisters of Presentation of Mary congregation, Coimbatore. SR GEROSA took charge as the Principal of the College.<
1978
  • Dr. B. P. Chowdhury, visiting Professor from Cardiff lectured on ‘Eye as a medium of communication.
  • Seminar on Population Education was conducted by Dr. Abraham, Professor of Sociology & Dr. Narayan, Prof. of Psychology, Extension Centre, at the College Premises.
1979
  • A Seminar on National Adult Education programme was arranged in the college. Fr. Joe Arimpoor gave a three-day Orientation program.
1980
  • Students participated in Inter Collegiate debate on “Mass media degenerating the youth.” at Lady Wellingdon College.
1981
  • Mrs. Sunanda Ghosh was awarded Ph. D. Degree.
1982
  • Sr. Cyril, Headmistress of Loretto Convent, Calcutta, served as a Course Director and headed a seminar on “A family life & education”
  • 75 girls visited the Educational Book Exhibition on board the ship M.V. Logos.
  • Students and Staff were enlightened on Atomic Reactor by the scientist, in educational trip to Kalpakkam Atomic Reactor Plant.
  • Miss Shanthakumari, Asst. Prof. of Biology attended a Seminar Curriculum & Methodology at NCERT, Delhi. It was organised by NCERT.
  • Mrs.Gnanmbal was awarded Ph.D. degree.
  • Dr. (Mrs). Ghosh attended a meeting at the state planning meeting of Ehilagam.
1983
  • UGC sponsored Seminar on ‘Transfer of Teaching Technology through Effective Communication Strategies.
  • Dr. K. Venkata Subramaniam, Member, State planning Commission, Dr.(Miss). Vedanayagam, Rev. G. Miller, Dr.Soundaraja Rao, A. Ramachandran, TTTI, Sulochana Sekar. Miss. Ahalaya Chari, Retd. Principal, Regional college of Education, Padmabhusan, served as resource person; and delivered lectures on the education in eighties”.
  • Superior General, Mother Immaculate, visited the college.
  • Dr. (Mrs). Gnanambal attended a Regional workshop conducted by CIEFL & RIE for B.Ed college professors at Bangalore.
1984
  • Dr. (Mrs). Ghosh and Miss. Shanthakumari attended a five days’ workshop for the development of B.Ed curriculum at Madurai Kamaraj University, organised by NCERT.
  • College re-opened in the new building at K.K.Nagar, Inaugurated by Thiru. C. Aranganayagam, the Education Minister of Tamil Nādu. Msgr. A.J. Adaikalam (Vicar General) Fr. Adaikalam blessed the building. Thiru. T.D. Sundararaj, Commissioner and Secretary to the government addressed the gathering. Thiru.N. Ananthapadmanaphan, Director of Collegiate Education & Rev. Sr. Lily Bernard, FMM, Provincial of Franciscan Missionaries of Mary felicitated the function.
1986
  • Thiru.Srinivasan of Small Industries Service Institute trained students in the preparation of Soap, cleaning powder and Liquid soap as a part of SUPW project.
  • Dr.Harinarayanan, Director of Museum, gave lecture on the uses of museum. Covenant Players International (2 Americans & 2 Australians) conducted a drama workshop with the students.
  • Miss. Flora obtained doctorate degree.
1987
  • Mr. P. Krishnaswami, Retd. Science teacher, addressed the girls on improvised apparatus and teaching of science.
  • Silver Jubilee celebration was held, Dr. B. B. Sundaresan, Vice Chancellor, University of Madras, presided over the function.
  • Recognition for conducting research leading to Ph.D degree.
1989
  • Workshop on Counselling Skills sponsored by AIACHE was organised.
1990
  • A three-day Seminar on ‘Many Facets of Learning’ was organized.
  • UGC sponsored three-day seminar on the burning issue of ‘Drug Addiction’ organized with participation of cooperating schools
1991
  • Dr.Sunanda Ghosh took over as Principal in 1991 for a brief period of six months.
1992
  • Dr. Gnanambal carried the mantle of principalship for consecutive two years, lightening the institution with steady growth and progress in all spheres of activity.
1993
  • Seminar cum Workshop was held on “Solutions to classroom problems”.
  • Stella Matutina won the Rolling Cup at an Inter-Collegiate Elocution contest was organized by Teachers Training College, Saidapet.
1994
  • Dr.Sr.Marsiana took over as Principal in 1994.
  • Intercollege seminar was organised on “Women’s Development” by the women’s cell.
  • College hosted a seminar cum workshop, organized by Directorate of Collegiate Education on “Preparation of NAAC and Self-Study report” for the Colleges of Education.1996

  • M.Phil., (part -time and full-time) course was introduced.
1998
  • Alumni Association was instituted.
  • A lovely chapel was blessed by His Grace Dr. Casmir Gnanadickam, Archbishop of Madras- Mylapore.
1999
  • Infrastructure was widened to Second floor with a spacious seminar hall, mathematics and physical science classrooms, psychology lab, language lab and a computer lab.
  • The library was renovated and equipped with additional books.
2001
  • The PTA was iniated.
  • The first state level inter- collegiate volley ball tournament was organised,SMCE students won the rolling trophy.
2002
  • A grand and spacious Lourdes Hall was Blessed by Rt. Rev. Dr. Lawrence Pius and inaugurated by Mother Daria, Former Superior General and Rev. Mother Dulsi, Former Asst. Mother General.
  • The IQAC was established to ensure quality sustenance and enhancement of the institution.
  • A placement cell was established and functions actively.
  • Won the overall Rolling Shield in the Inter-Collegiate Cultural Competition held at Meston College of Education.
2003
  • Workshop conducted on “Credit System for Teacher Educators” for all Colleges of Education in Chennai.
  • Dr. Jain Shanthini was awarded Ph.D degree
2004
  • Dr. Ezhisai Vallabi was awarded Ph.D degree
  • The college emerged as a study centre for Tamil Nadu Open University.
  • Autonomy peer team visited our college.
  • The parents Teachers Association was established.
  • NET coaching is provided for PG and M.Ed., students.
  • Secured a first place at an Inter-Collegiate Physical Science Model making competition.
2005
  • Awarded the prestigious ‘five-star status' (First Cycle) by NAAC In recognition of the overall growth and excellence in the field of teacher education for over 45 long years the
  • College was granted Autonomy in 2005 which ushered a new era of freedom.
  • A National Seminar on “Seamless Education Challenges & Prospects of Teacher Preparation” was organized.

  • Dr. A.Alma Juliet Pamela was awarded Ph.D degree
  • A National seminar on “Quality Indices for Teacher Preparation Institutions” was organised.
  • A UGC sponsored certificate course on “Human Rights and Value Education” for students was conducted.

  • Dr.Sr.Philomina Pushpa Mary took over as Principal.
  • • Re-accredited with grade “A” ( Cycle-II) by NAAC.
  • An academic bi-annual Research journal “The Indian Educational Researcher” was established.
2009
  • Inspection for additional intake of B.Ed students.
2010
  • National Seminar on Empower Teacher Preparation was organized, Dr.T. Padmanabhan, Vice-Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University inaugurated and Prof. Dr. Krishnakumar and Professor at Central Institute of Education, University of Delhi delivered the keynote address.
  • won the rolling trophy in the Inter collegiate volleyball tournament.
2011
  • Autonomous Inspection was held.
  • An Intra-Collegiate model making competition was held for Physical Science, Biological Science and Mathematics students.
  • ‘Stella Golden Fiesta’ -A State level Inter Collegiate Cultural competitions was organized Twelve College of Education took part in the competitions.
2013
  • Dr. Ezhisai Vallabi took over as Principal.
  • Re-accredited (Third Cycle) at ‘A’ Grade with CGPA: 3.48 by NAAC.
2014

  • B.Ed. additional intake of 100 and M.Ed. additional intake of 50 students was approved by NCTE.

  • Dr. Joseph Catherine took over as Principal.
  • A team from the Malaysian Educational Ministry visited and observed the teaching learning methods.
  • Received Social Action Award for Excellence in Humanitarian Service by Indian Development Foundation [IDF].
2018
  • Ms.Nalina, a transgender student from department of Visual Communication, Loyola College shared her experiences on the issues faced by Transgender .
  • Our college participated “UNNAI ARINTHAL” – Talk show on Organ Donation for Recognition JAYA TV.
2019
  • Won Overall Championship Award for Intercollegiate Cultural festival by IRS Association – LEAD team Income Tax department and Antony Charitable Trust.
  • Participated in longest continuous speech achieved by a team of 77 B.Ed students duration of 7 minutes 9 hours from 8 pm.- 5 pm for World Record by Jetlee Book of Records.
2021
  • Awarded with “Best Active Role” in National Service Scheme by Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University.
  • Received “Best College Award” for Skill Indian Award Team by Tamil Nadu teachers Education.
